What makes the Sonofresco 3-in-1 Different?
The System
The Sonofresco 3-in-1 System is built on top a Sonofresco's 1lb air
roaster chassis. However, the similarities end there. Internally,
the 3-in-1 System has been
completely reengineered in order to provide a
Balanced Airflow Design to three individual samples,
essentially mimicking the airflow within a drum roaster.
The roast
chamber itself is divided into three equal sections by a stainless
steel insert giving
you the ability to roast three samples
at the same time under
the exact same roast profile. The unit's controller
continually monitors temperature and self adjusts to stay within 1
°C of the roast profile. Once the final temperature has been
reached, the system automatically enters cool-down mode.
What does this mean?
You can now roast three samples at once in 12 to 15 minutes with
practically zero supervision. Sample roasting has never been this
easy or this affordable.
Balanced Airflow Design
Significant advances have been made to manage the heat distribution
in the Sonofresco 3-in-1. These advances optimize the balance
between convection and conduction heating that allows the 3-in-1
roaster perform as well typical drum roasters available on the market
today.
Why all the fuss?
Factory balanced airflow allows the user to capture
all of the characteristics that the bean embodies and protects the
clean roast requirements demanded of a true sample roaster. If the
airflow is too fast the net effect is fluidization of the coffee.
The beans are lifted too high and are allowed to float alone in the
airstream with less contact with other beans within the roasting
chamber. This results in a roast which is dried out. Conversely, too
little airflow causes the beans to settle - concentrating the heat on
one side of the bean resulting in uneven browning.
Balancing airflow is critical.
Sonofresco's air balancing creates a bubbling effect
which allows the beans to get the right balance of airflow passing
around the beans while allowing adequate contact to support effective
heat conduction.
Simply Remarkable Results
The novel design of the Sonofresco 3-in-1
allows users to prepare up to three roasts
simultaneously. The net result is three sample roasts in the same
time, energy and effort required to perform a single roast on other
sample roasters. An added benefit, the three way divider can simply
be removed allowing you to run the machine as a standard
roaster yielding one net pound of roasted coffee.
When roasting samples, the beans and roast profiles used are not the
only factors that can affect the quality of the results; differences
also exist in the ability of some sample roasters to maintain
consistent temperature within and between roasts. If the temperature
of the roasting chamber is not uniform it can have a significant
impact on results.
The Sonofresco 3-in-1
actively monitors and controls the temperature of the roaster to
ensure that the roasting profiles are traced with precision - a
feature not found in other, more expensive, sample roasters.
Maintaining uniform heating within the roasting chamber is inherent
in the design of the Sonofresco 3-in-1. While the single barrel and
integrated roasting chamber partition plays a large part in creating
this uniformity, the innovative Balanced Airflow Design ensures that
this translates to even degree of roast across all the beans
